When I was about thirteen, I played this song for try-outs into a competition. I remember standing in the line to play – with all the girly-girls and their curled hair and flower dresses – and how out of place I was with my messy hair, jeans and cowboy boots. I still have the rejection letter they sent me that said I didn’t fit into their “format”. Yeah … no shit.

Anyway, Dad had made a copy of a crummy cassette recording of this song and he would lay down and listen to it over and over again, despite the terrible sound quality, so I knew that this song fit in his format anyway. In fact, he came up with the title for it. Thanks for giving this song the love it needed to survive Dad. I’ve left it free of other instrumentation because you always said you like the piano alone.
